    MEDIEVAL EUROPE AT BROOKSIDE SCHOOL
Brookside School 6th graders and their parents stepped back into the Middle Ages in January to celebrate the publication of the 6th graders’ historical fiction short stories. The stories, written from the perspective of serfs and peasants, squires and knights, lords and ladies, or apprentices to a guild, were set in Medieval Europe—a time period about which students learned extensively in Mrs. Boggio’s history class. Students gained a better understanding of medieval life during language arts class with Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Walker, when they read historical fiction novels set during the era. In addition to learning how to craft a realistic story, students were also tasked with creating an historically accurate setting as well as including details that were specific to medieval life. It took about a month for students to draft.
